A 15-year old Boy Scout is dead after a boat accident, which happened after dark on Lake Powel in Utah on July 28.
The scout was with a group of other scouts and leaders, who were riding back to camp following dinner on Antelope Island, when the boat struck a rock outcropping.
Max King, a national park spokesman in Utah, said that the 15-year-old was ejected from the boat. King also said two others were injured on the boat, one a Boy Scout and one an adult, who were hurt. The boy was flown to the hospital and the adult was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
"Operating the boat after dark is a very dangerous situation," King said on KSL.com. "It requires a pretty good knowledge of the lake. We do not recommend at all that people operate their vessels after dark."
King said this is the third Boy Scout to die on an outing in Utah this year.
BoatInsurance.org said that although people will remember things such as
small boat insurance, boating safety is often forgotten. The site said boaters should be careful to remember the boating safety tips they've been taught.
