Hurricane storm preparation

HURRICANE SEASON is upon us:

Hurricane season has begun, and we have seen the devastating effects from the winds and rain, in the past.

It is still, summer and a great time to enjoy the water; by the beach or on a boat. This can make an impending storm especially stressful.

The U.S. Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's article NOAA prediction for 2024 storms which outlines what to expect from this upcoming hurricane season. NOAA’s outlook for the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, which spans from June 1 to November 30, predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal season, a 10% chance of a near-normal season and a 5% chance of a below-normal season. NOAA is forecasting a range of 17 to 25 total named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher)..  Also outlined are the many advancements that will allow more accurate tracking of these storms.

A hurricane is never a pleasant experience, being prepared and having a plan makes things a lot less stressful. If you own a boat in a storm prone area, check out Chubb's Hurricane Preparation Checklist. The list provides a guide of items for boat owners to consider before, during and after a hurricane.

Remember, when in doubt, haul the boat out and tie it down in a secure area.  If you have a boat on a trailer, take it inland to a secure location.  Wishing everyone a safe boating season.

Be Prepared
