
After a wedding rehearsal on July 22, many from the groom's side of a wedding party went boating, leading to a collision with a speed boat near Eau Claire, Wisconsin. While the groom and a groomsman were found alive and treated for injuries, the groom's brother and a groomsman were found dead, according to Pioneer Press.
The bodies of Luke Pohl, 25, and Mathtew Simonson, 28, were found in the Chippewa River near the crash site Sunday. The two men had been missing since Friday night.
The driver of the speed boat, Mark Michaels, 50, was killed on impact when his boat spun and hit the shore, the Pioneer Press reports. Five of the six people on the wedding party's boat were ejected.
According to BoatInsurance.org, $50 million a year in
small boat insurance claims are filed. The website offered tips to avoid accidents, saying first not to drink and boat. The website also said to be aware of navigational rules and the weather, as well as having all boats checked for safety.
